Social Media Cries Foul After No Women Are Nominated For 2018’s Golden Globes Best Director
Greta Gerwig’s first directorial role yielded the critically acclaimed Lady Bird. However, despite the film’s positive reception, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association did not include Gerwig – or any other female director – in its 2018 Golden Globes best director category.

Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman and Dee Rees’ Mudbound also dazzled theaters in 2017, both garnering positive receptions. As it stands, Barbra Streisand, who directed Yentl in 1984, will still be the only women to win a Golden Globe for her directorial achievements.
Given the publicity of sexual harassment scandals that have come to light since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, there has been interest in diversifying gender representation in Hollywood. Twitter users haven’t been shy with their reactions:
