Lorde confirmed to Jimmy Fallon that she used to run an Instagram account dedicated to critiquing onion rings.

LORDE CONFIRMS ONION RING INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT WAS HERS

Last week, New Zealand publication Newshub speculated that Insta handle @onionringsworldwide might be owned and operated by kiwi singer Lorde. The account was deactivated shortly after the piece came out, but the singer confirmed it when asked by Fallon.

Lorde was talking about her favorite diner in New York City when Fallon interrupted: “Did you order onion rings?”

“Ok, I have to explain for a second,” she started. “Here’s the thing: I sort of naively didn’t realize it would be ‘a thing’ that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at each of those places… It’s me, it’s me, it’s me.”

The extremely personable Lorde made the audience as well as the host laugh with her admission. “I feel like it reads like the kind of thing a pop star would do to look relatable,” she added. “Which I wasn’t doing. It was a funny thing with my friends on the tour. I was like, ‘This is a good pastime.'”

She continued by saying she stopped with the onion ring reviews, but has no plans to stop eating the treats. “I’m still going to keep eating onion rings because they’re my favorite. I think they’re underrated as well, they don’t get enough credit for how delicious they are,” she said, before giving a tip to fans who may want to make some at home. “A batter works better than a crumb. It’s a bit lighter. And another thing you can do to make an onion ring magical is lightly pickle the onion before you batter it up. It takes on this acidity and it’s incredible.”

Lorde’s latest album Melodrama came out last week. Check out the interview below.
