‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Celebrates Season Premiere With Zombies ‘Taking Over’ NYC
The cast of The Walking Dead: Dead City took over New York City this week in preparation for the show’s season premiere this Sunday.
“New York City is the ultimate backdrop for the return of these fan-favorite characters, and the perfect place to deliver unique ‘only in NY’ moments for Dead City’s massive fandom,” Kim Granito, chief marketing officer for AMC Networks, told The New York Post. “From walker sightings and events at iconic locations to fan screenings and cast appearances, we’re taking over the Big Apple one bite at a time.”
Numerous pop-up events occurred all over, from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and fans saw their favorite stars and walkers throughout the city’s historical landmarks.
The show’s iconic zombies took over the areas from Penn Station, Radio City Music Hall, Citi Field, and even the Empire State Building.
Some special items available included issues of the Post with a limited edition “The Walking Dead: Dead City” cover. PopUp Bagels also partnered with the show, and the first 200 customers picked up a complimentary three-pack of bagels. Other opportunities included exclusive merchandise and numerous photo opportunities.
On Tuesday night, while the walkers were taking over Citi Field, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan threw the first pitch at the New York Mets game, where they faced the Arizona Diamondbacks. Before the game, Mets players even used replica bats of Lucille to hit balls for batting practice.
The cast has previously come together to promote their new spin-off shows.
The festivities concluded on Wednesday with a red carpet and an advanced screening of the season two premiere, followed by a Q&A session with the cast and executive producers.
In The Walking Dead: Dead City, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) form an unlikely alliance as they travel across a post-apocalyptic New York City, long ago surrendered to the undead. In season two, Maggie and Negan face a new threat and find themselves separated. As they try to get back to each other, they learn that escaping this time won’t be so easy.
Season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres May 4 on AMC and AMC+.
