Amber Heard Files For Divorce From Johnny Depp After 15 Months Of Marriage

Heard filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 23, just three days after Depp’s mother, Betty Sue, died following a long illness. In her divorce filing, Heard sites “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the breakdown of the marriage. The Danish Girl actress, who never signed a prenup with Depp, is seeking spousal support, reported TMZ.

Depp and Heard do not have any children together – though they do have the infamous dogs Pistol and Boo. The couple have been in and out of the headlines over the last year after breaking Australia’s biosecurity laws for failing to follow the proper protocol when bringing animals into the country. Heard ultimately pleaded guilty to the incident and faced minimal sentencing that included a small fine.

Depp and Heard married in 2015 following a few years of dating after meeting on the set of 2011’s The Rum Diary. According to insiders, there was trouble even before the two exchanged vows, with Heard apparently getting cold feet.

“Before Amber met Johnny she was just a regular super cool hipster chick living with roommates who dated girls,” a source told People. “At their engagement party she kind of got cold feet… she was just like what is this scene and what am I doing here? She kind of couldn’t believe it was her life now.”

There are also reports that Depp’s family never warmed to Heard, which was an ongoing source of tension.

Depp’s teenage kids – Lily Rose and Jack,  his 2 sisters and his mom “hated” Heard, according to TMZ. They thought that the actress would “treat him like crap,” and that she was using him for his fame and money. Depp’s recently deceased mom also apparently called her a “terrible person.”

While Depp, who is promoting Alice Through the Looking Glass, has yet to comment on the divorce filing, he did file a response through his lawyer, Laura Wasser. He is asking that Heard’s request for spousal support be dismissed.
