Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, who have been together for more than three years, are reportedly on a break.

The cause of the temporary split reportedly has to do with the actors’ conflicting busy schedules. Currently, Garfield, 31, is filming Martin Scorsese‘s new film Silence on location in Taiwan. For the part, he has to get into the mindset of Jesuit priest Father Sebastiao Rodrigues, who faces persecution upon traveling to Japan to find a mentor with a fellow Jesuit priest.

“He’s thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else, but it’s too early to say the relationship is over,” a source told People magazine.

“Emma understands his work anxieties – it’s why she originally pulled out of Cabaret last year and only did it this year – but they’re taking a break from seeing each other,” the source added. “They’re both a slave to their schedules. This time last year they were privately discussing marriage.”

Stone, 26, has been busy stateside. After wrapping up her run on Broadway in Cabaret, she completed production on her new film with Bradley Cooper, Aloha. Leading up to the awards shows, including the Oscars in February, Stone was busy on the talk show circuit to promote Birdman.

“They had been fighting a lot and they hadn’t seen each other. They have both been working but they weren’t getting along,” a source told Us Weekly about the state of the Amazing Spider-Man costars’ relationship leading up to the break. “[Andrew] is very in his character. He’s lost weight, and he’s in a dark place mentally for his performance and he’s not boyfriend material right now.”

Neither Stone nor Garfield have commented on the alleged split.
