Miley Cyrus Heckled At Film Premiere By Confused Fans Who Thought She’d Be Singing
At the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend, pop star Miley Cyrus was heckled by furious fans following the screening of her film Something Beautiful.
Something Beautiful accompanies Cyrus’ recently released album by the same name. After the film was shown, Cyrus sat for a panel discussion with her collaborators and co-directors Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.
Despite the cause for celebration, many of Cyrus’ fans expected her to perform a “concert” at the event and grew angry midway through the panel’s Q&A segment.
One particularly furious fan was heard yelling, “We thought this was a concert! We paid $800! Are you actually going to sing?”
Cyrus’ film premiere was never advertised as a live performance, but rather (per the festival website) “an exclusive conversation” with the artist following the screening.
As other audience members yelled, Cyrus looked out at the crowd, seemingly confused, and asked, “What?”
Another audience member used the opportunity to scream “Sing ‘The Climb’!”
Eventually, Cyrus gave in to the fan’s demand and performed a brief cappella version of her iconic Hannah Montana: The Movie hit song, first telling the crowd, “You have to start it.”
Following viral footage of the audience, many of Cyrus’ fans took to the internet to shame the hecklers for their rude behavior, and thank the singer for appeasing the individuals by singing the classic throwback.
At the premiere, Cyrus was accompanied by her boyfriend Maxx Morando. The two were romantically linked in the summer of 2021, and since then have made notably rare public appearances together.
On June 5, Cyrus posted a promotional clip for the film on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Something Beautiful: The Visual Album is coming to theaters—June 12 in the US and June 27 internationally. A cinematic fantasy filled with exclusive performances yet to be seen… including a special appearance by the iconic Naomi Campbell. Tickets are on sale now.”
