Mel B and Eddie Murphy’s child, Angel, has publicly come into his new identity as a trans man.

The transition was announced via Instagram, as Angel changed the biographical details on his personal account to show he/him pronouns.

Sources reported to The Daily Mail that both Hollywood icon Murphy and the former Spice Girl Mel B (who just celebrated her 50th birthday last weekend) are extremely supportive of their son’s decision to be his true self. An insider shared, “It’s a decision Angel made, and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie…there was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable.”

Angel turned 18 last month, as shown by Mel B’s post to Instagram, where she shared a series of selfies with herself and Angel, who showed off a variety of prominent facial piercings. Mel B wrote in the caption, “I cannot believe you are 18. You are so special and so bright and so talented! I couldn’t be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are, but you’ll forever be my babyyy.”

She continued, “I hope you keep chasing your dreams and be kind to everyone around you like you always have been, my Angel,” before she signed off, “Love you always.”

Although Angel’s transition was made public just this month, Mel B has been referring to her child as her son for some time. In a May interview with Us Weekly, she spoke about her experience co-parenting with Murphy, and added that Angel keeps “very much to himself.”

Referring to Angel, Mel B said, “He went to Japan last year with his girlfriend and just embraced the whole Japanese vibe, he speaks fluent Japanese, and he knows exactly what he wants to do and where he wants to go.”

While Angel rarely posts on Instagram, he has shared two photos of himself and his girlfriend in the last year.

Speaking about co-parenting with Us Weekly, Mel B shared that she and Murphy learned to co-parent together “bit by bit,” and the process of raising their son together allowed their friendship to flourish.
