Shain Gandee, 'Buckwild' Star, Dies At 21
Shain Gandee, star of MTV’s Buckwild reality show, was found dead in his truck in West Virginia on Monday morning. Gandee had been reported missing 31 hours prior. He was 21.
Gandee was discovered with two other deceased individuals in the Ford Bronco that was located in Sissonville, W. Va., according to officials. His uncle, David Gandee, 48, was one of the deceased found in the vehicle with him, reported CBS affiliate WOWK. The identity of the third body has yet to be released.
Gandee was last seen at around 3am on Sunday morning, Mar. 31, with his uncle at Larry’s Bar in Sissonville, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The two men had informed others before setting off together that they planned on going “four-wheeling,” police reported. However, neither man relayed where they would be headed, and the red Bronco had last been seen pulling out of the local bar. Family members reported them missing on Sunday evening when they still hadn’t heard from either of them.
MTV released a statement on the late star of Buckwild. “We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident,” it read. “We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly.”
Buckwild was recently renewed by MTV for a second season, despite urgings from West Virgina Sen. Joe Manchin for the network to cancel it because of its unflattering representation of people from his home state.
