The 2013 Emmy Awards are right around the corner, and anticipation is building about what shows and actors will take home the trophies for representing the best in television.

Hosted by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will kick off at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c.

The nominations for the awards show were announced back in July, which showed that FX’s American Horror Story led the pack with 17 nods. HBO’s Game of Thrones was a close second with 16 nominations. With 15 nominations a piece were Saturday Night Live and made-for-TV Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, which starred Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

History could be made at the 65th Emmy’s as Netflix original series House of Cards has been nominated for a number of awards, including best drama series and received actor nods for Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. It would be the first time a series delivered solely online has won in a major category.

Presenting on the night will be Patrick’s HIMYM costars Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan; Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris and Bryan Cranston; the Deschanel sisters Zooey and Emily; Saturday Night Live alums Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Will Arnett; Scandal’s Kerry Washington and more.

Emmy night will also feature an “In Memoriam” segment that will remember late Sopranos actor James Gandolfini and Glee actor Cory Monteith. Edie Falco will take to the Nokia Theatre stage to pay tribute her late costar, while Jane Lynch will honor Monteith. Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton and Jonathan Winters will also be remembered.

Behing the Candelabra and The Big Bang Theory were already awarded Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.
