Jackson Rathbone Describes JetBlue Flight 1416 Emergency Landing After Engine Explodes
147 JetBlue passengers had quite a fright on Thursday, when JetBlue flight 1416 from Long Beach to Austin suffered an engine malfunction, forcing an emergency landing.
Jackson Rathbone Live-Tweets Emergency Landing
Jackson Rathbone, who starred as Jasper in the Twilight Saga, was on the flight with his wife and young son and took to Twitter and WhoSay during the evacuation to describe the emergency landing and evacuation. A JetBlue spokesperson confirmed that about 15 minutes into the flight, the engine overheated, causing an emergency landing and subsequent evacuation.
“We were on JetBlue flight 1416 to Austin from Long Beach. Our right engine exploded and our cabin filled with smoke. The oxygen masks did not deploy, but the brave stewardesses came around and manually deployed them. It was rough, the plane was rocking,“ Rathbone wrote on WhoSay.
Rathbone described how the right engine overheated, causing chaos in the cabin, and he thanked the personnel and the pilot for landing them safely.
According to Rathbone’s account, the pilot informed the passengers that the right engine had malfunctioned and to prepare for an emergency landing. “We were told to brace as we careened sharply back towards land. Guided by our pilot, and I believe our guardian angels, we landed safely,” Rathbone continued
Though the experience was scary, Rathbone isn’t holding it against the airline. Later that day, he and his family boarded another JetBlue flight, presumably completing their trip to Austin, Texas.
Fellow passenger, Jarrod West, told reporters that the pilot made sure to say hello to the passengers after they had safely evacuated. “He did good…He came by afterwards and said ‘hello’ to everybody. All of us were hugging him and saying ‘thank you,’” West said.
