SAOIRSE RONAN BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

Saoirse Ronan was born on April 12, 1994 (Saorise Ronan’s age 29) in the Bronx, New York to Monica and Paul Ronan. She is an only child of her Irish parents, who are both originally from Dublin. Her father was employed in construction and was bartending before training as an actor in New York, while her mother worked as a nanny and acted when she was younger.

Initially, Ronan’s parents were undocumented immigrants who had fled from Ireland as a result of the recession in the 1980s, and they struggled financially during their time spent in New York. The family ultimately moved back to Dublin when Ronan was three years old. Ronan was raised in Ardattin, County Carlow, where she went to Ardattin National School. Her parents later decided to have her privately tutored at home. Ronan was also brought up Catholic but has publicly stated she’s questioned her faith ever since she was little.

SAOIRSE RONAN BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

Ronan began her career by making her screen debut in a story arc in the 2003 TV series primetime medical drama The Clinic. She has gone on to star in a wide array of independent films, such as Little Women, Atonement, Lady Bird, City of Ember and more.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Ronan reflected upon her most memorable experience on set.

“A memorable experience – well, it was all quite memorable I think. Eric (Bana) and I did a lot of stuff together and we started out together in Finland, which was very, very beautiful but it was also extremely cold. It was about minus 30 degrees at one stage. So we had to work in that and that was a memory in itself. And, well, mainly the scenes that Cate [Blanchett], and I had together were always kept at arm’s length. We didn’t really have any traditional dialogue scenes, which was a shame since she’s so good. But it was lovely to just get to know her. We shot a lot of our stuff at this place called Spreepark, which was an old, run-down amusement park in Berlin. There was one day I was going to see Lady Gaga that night, so we had to rush to get everything finished beforehand.”

Ronan was then asked a question that many of her followers might not know the answer to.

“You can pronounce my name a few different ways,” Ronan said. “I say ‘Ser-sha’ but a lot of Irish people would pronounce it ‘Seer-sha,’ which is also really nice. I like that too and it’s Irish for freedom and/or liberty.”

When asked about her training for the popular thriller film Hanna, here’s what Ronan had to say:

“I began training for the film a couple months before we started shooting. That involved working out in the gym every day for about two hours a day – really intense training. I was doing martial arts and stick fighting and learning to shoot bows and arrows and guns and things like that. So, it was good preparation, probably the most preparation I’ve done for a film.”

Talking to uInterview about the message of a different film, Lady Bird, Ronan was asked to reflect upon the message of the movie.

“I think Lady Bird has to say that everyone has their own story and most people at that age don’t know what it is yet, but it’s important to go find out. I think the stuff that she goes through, the experiences she has, and the relationship she has with home, is something that we can sometimes feel guilty about when we’re leaving it, but it’s human and something that we all go through. Again, the film is really about that core relationship between her and her mother, and so the general consensus is that people really just want to call their moms after they’ve seen the film and say sorry. So, yeah I think it’s just about sort of showing everyone that it’s okay to be different and it’s alright to take some time to figure out who you are.”

Roman also spoke to uInterview about her love interests in The Host and how she related to both male characters during the romantic scenes.

“I mean, you know what it was grand because we became so comfortable with one another through rehearsals, and also I had worked with Jake [Abel] very briefly a few years beforehand on another film and I had met Max [Irons] before as well. So I knew what they were like. I knew what kind of people they were, and so it was very easy from the off, really becoming so comfortable with one another. And when it came to it, when it came to doing those romantic scenes, we had a laugh and we didn’t take it too seriously. So, I think that made a big difference for both of us, whether it was Max or Jake.”

SAOIRSE RONAN BIOGRAPHY: PERSONAL LIFE

Ronan doesn’t seem to be settled in one place, as she currently divides her time between London, Dublin and Scotland. She has been dating Scottish actor Jack Lowden, her co-star in Mary Queen of Scots, since 2018.

Ronan does not use any forms of social media, claiming that it is “too stressful” for her to properly use. She had previously joined Twitter in 2009 before deleting her account soon after.
