The World War I film 1917 took top honors at the 77th Golden Globe this past Sunday, winning best drama and receiving the directing honor for Sam Mendes.

Perhaps more impressive was Once Upon a Time Hollywood which picked up three honors, for best comedy as well as supporting actor for Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino for screenplay. Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a drama for Warners Brothers’ Joker, Renée Zellweger won best actress in a drama for Judy and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite won the foreign-language film award.

For TV, HBO’s Succession picked up the best drama series award along with best actor actor for Brian Cox. Amazon’s Fleabag won the award for best actress for star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and also won the best comedy series.

HBO’s Chernobyl won many honors, for best supporting actor Stellen Skarsgard and best limited series.

Ramy Youssef picked up the award for best actor in a television series-comedy or musical for the series Ramy. Olivia Colman won the award for best performance in a television series – drama for the series The Crown.

Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel on January 5.
