Taylor Swift Confirms She Will Be Rerecording Her Previous 6 Albums
Two days after Taylor Swift fired off her response to Scooter Braun‘s purchase of Big Machine Records, Braun congratulated the singer on the campaign around her “brilliant” new album, Lover.
This comes after Swift said that she may be rerecording her previous six albums this year so she can own the rights to her own music.
In June, when Braun acquired Big Machine in a $300 million deal, Swift called the situation her “worst nightmare” and accused Braun of manipulative bullying over the years and said she was denied the rights to purchase her masters.
On Thursday, she appeared on Good Morning America speaking briefly on the topic. She said that Lover is “something that’s very special” to her as it’s the first album she will officially own. Robin Roberts then asked Swift about rerecording her old material.
“Yeah that’s true and it’s something I’m very excited about. My contract says starting from November 2020 I can start re-recording albums 1-5. I think artists deserve to own their own work. It’s next year, I’m gonna be busy,” Swift responded.
Upon the release of Lover, Braun tweeted, “Regardless of what has been said the truth is you don’t make big bets unless you are a believer and always have been. Brilliant album with #Lover. Congrats @taylorswift13. Supporting was always the healthier option. #brilliantalbum #brilliantcampaign congrats.”
But, Swift doesn’t seem to be buying it. When she appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, she told correspondent, Tracy Smith that she was not made aware of the label’s purchase before it hit media outlets even though she had told Big Machine Records’ Scott Borchetta that she did not want anything to do with Braun.

Many singers and songwriters have come to Swift’s defense, sharing their viewpoints of the situation on social media.
Stars like Iggy Azalea, Halsey, Alessia Cara and others stood in solidarity with Swift.
“Taylor Swift is a huge reason why I always insisted to write my own music. I believed if she did it (in a way that made my teeth ache like cold water and my heart swell and my eyes leak) than [sic] I should too. She deserves to own the painstaking labor of her heart. She has surpassed all expectations of what any artist is capable of. She catapulted her stardom into the Milky Way. And it turns my guts that no matter how much power or success a woman has in this life, you are still susceptible to someone coming along and making you feel powerless out of spite.” Halsey said in a post on Instagram.
