Shakira opened up about her split from her ex-husband Gerard Pique.

“My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part.’ I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children,” Shakira told Billboard.

She hoped that their marriage would last as long as her parents, who have been together for 50 years.

The two announced their split in June 2022 after rumors of Piqué’s infidelity with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. She allegedly found out about the affair while realizing that her jam disappeared from their home.

Shakira and Pique have two sons together – Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8.

Shakira also talked about how she had to press pause on her career while living in Barcelona. “The thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him. It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona. I couldn’t leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm,” she added.

Since relocating to Miami, Shakira has said her kids enjoy a more normal life than in Spain.

“The media situation was hard on them [in Barcelona]. We had paparazzi at our doorstep every single day. Here, they’re normal children who enjoy normalcy, which is what school should be: a safe haven where they can be themselves.”

Shakira has been linked to basketball player Jimmy Butler and Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
