Reese Witherspoon, 35, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday morning after being hit by a car while out jogging in Santa Monica.

The Oscar-winning actress was crossing an intersection near 20th Street and Georgina Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle driven by an 84 year-old woman. "The driver seemed to have not seen her because of a large tree at the intersection," and eyewitness told Us Weekly.

Witherspoon was taken to a local hospital after the accident, though the police report stated that she "suffered minor injuries" only. Witherspoon "was lucky," the witness said. "It could have been much more serious."

The driver was penalized for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Witherspoon, who was married Hollywood agent Jim Toth earlier this year, suffered a cut on her head after the incident, but was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon to recover at home.
