An understudy for the lead role of the Broadway show Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Ari Groover, delivered a memorable performance on Saturday night as the iconic singer. She even turned a wardrobe malfunction into something hilarious and memorable, as her wig slipped off while she was dancing to the show’s finale rendition of “Proud Mary.”

Groover didn’t miss a beat, quickly bending down to toss her wig offstage and continuing with the great dance choreography, as well as delivering an incredible vocal performance with no need for a wig to help her character.

The actor herself shared a clip of the moment to Instagram and Twitter, saying it was “Amazing” to step into the lead role after she had been playing the more minor roles of Alline and Ikette in the Broadway show.

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical premiered on Broadway in November 2019 to positive reviews. It was nominated for 12 Tony Awards and took home the Leading Actress Awards one for the performance of its original star Adrienne Warren.

Groover is an actress, writer and DJ who has appeared in minor roles in Spider Man: Homecoming, and Law & Order: SVU. She also wrote and starred in two short films.
