On Saturday night, Kanye West made an announcement that he would be running for president for the 2020 election. He tweeted, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States ! #2020VISION.”

West’s message comes just four short months before the election is set to occur. He has not filed with the Federal Election Commission and has yet to create a campaign committee. The deadline to file for president has passed in states including Indiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, North Caroline and Texas.

West’s wife Kim Kardashian responded to her husbands tweet with an American flag emoji.

Elon Musk also answered and wrote, “You have my full support!” Musk had previously shown his support for Democratic candidate Andrew Yang.

West is known to be very vocal in his support for President Donald Trump. In 2018 he faced significant backlash when he was photographed in the Oval Office wearing a hat that read, “Make America Great Again.”

Many were left with questions as to what West’s reasoning for running would be when just in May he told GQ, “We know who I’m voting on. And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over.”

Some speculate that West is running in order to deter young and black voters from voting for Democratic candidate Joe Biden and in turn helping Trump’s campaign.

Actor Daniel Newman wrote, “Kanye! Perfect timing to help your friend TRUMP distract from his PEDOPHILE rape court cases with Jeffrey Epstein & Ghislaine Maxwell! U want to Distract everyone & take Votes from Biden? Trump’s multiple alleged Rape victims deserve Justice!!”
