Jennifer Lopez Says It Feels ‘Sad’ & ‘Desperate’ To Be Single But She’s ‘Not Looking For Anyone’ After Divorcing Ben Affleck
In the wake of her divorce from actor Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez says she ready for the single world.
Lopez shared her positive outlook on the dating scene. Two months after she filed to end her two-year marriage with Affleck, Lopez is confident. “I was thinking about this time in my life, and I’m like, ‘That’s not what I thought it was going to turn out like,'” she told Interview magazine. “And then I thought, ‘No, this is exactly where I needed to be, to lead me to where I want to go.'”
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, the second anniversary of their marriage. They were originally romantically involved in 2002 when they met on the set of Gigli and were engaged shortly after, though they called off the wedding in 2004. In 2021, the couple rekindled their relationship, however short-lived.
Lopez described her revelations since the end of her third marriage. “I finally got it!” she said. “Now I’m excited when you say you’re just going to be on your own. Yes, I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what I f—ing do when it’s just me flying on my own…what if I’m just free?
She confessed, “It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like, actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Here’s the thing: There’s no new bar because I’m not looking for anybody. How’s that?”
Lopez and Affleck have worked to maintain an amicable relationship since their divorce. The pair reunited on September 14 for lunch in Los Angeles, accompanied by Lopez’s twins Max and Emma, 16, and Affleck’s children Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
