GOP Rep. Mike Collins Praises Ole Miss Counter-Protesters Who Taunted Black Pro-Palestinian Activist
Counter-protesters mocked pro-Palestine demonstrators at the University of Mississippi. In footage posted online, white students were caught on video taunting a black protester. Rep. Mike Collins (R-Georgia) praised the white students’ actions.
“Ole Miss taking care of business,” Collins posted on X.
Viewers criticized the white students and Collins’ stance on the situation, calling him out for supporting “racist” actions. In the video, one white student made monkey noises and obscene gestures at a female black graduate student. Police escorted the student while the others taunted her.
University of Mississippi sociology professor James M. Thomas posted to X, “Students were calling for an end to genocide. They were met with racism.”
Separate footage also showed a crowd of about 200 people singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” over pro-Palestine chants. The students called for the end of Israel’s attacks on Gaza and for the United States to stop funding weapons. Some counter-protesters waved Trump 2024 flags. The former president praised their actions.
Chancellor Glenn Boyce released an emailed statement on the incident, claiming a conduct investigation has been opened.
“While we are a modern university with a vibrant community of more than 25,000 people, it is important to acknowledge our challenging history, and incidents like this can set us back,” Boyce wrote. “It is one reason why we do not take this lightly and cannot let the unacceptable behavior of a few speak for our institution or define us.”
Last week, the NYPD cleared out pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University.
