Former Mandalorian star Gina Carano spoke out for the first time after filing a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm after they fired her in 2021 due to controversial social media posts.

Carano shared her side of the story and her opinions on the whole ordeal. Multiple posts were considered sensitive, but she recalls one incident in particular that caused a “massive meltdown” in production. Due to pressure from fans to share her pronouns in support of the transgender community, Carano responded by changing her pronouns to “boop/bop/beep.”

“I was just fed up,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “So I was like, ‘Fine, I’ll put something in my bio: ‘boop/bop/beep.’ I thought it was cute, like R2-D2.”

Carano was forced to go through sensitivity training with two transgender representatives from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). Carano describes the experience as a “reeducation camp.”

“They said, ‘Oh, darling, I’m so sorry you stepped on a land mine,’” she recalled. “I listened to them and they listened to me. It was sweet and it was fun, even.”

Carano’s co-star, Pedro Pascal, supported Carano as well, advising her to put hashtags that supported the trans community in her Twitter bio. Carano did not take his advice, stating, “Because that’s not my style, to put hashtag anything….. I’m also not going to put #TrumpsRight.”

When Carano posted a Holocaust meme, that was the final straw that resulted in her termination. While there has been debate as to whether the tweet was offensive or not, Carano remains adamant that she was targeted unfairly.

“It became very popular to hate me and pick on me,” Carano stated.

Now, Elon Musk is funding Carano’s lawsuit against Disney.

Carano commended Musk for his help, stating, “A lot of billionaires put their money into buying islands and building bunkers. Elon Musk is using his money to fight massive injustice battles.”

As for the lawsuit, Carano is not thinking about money but rather getting the weight of this incident off her shoulders.

“I’m thinking about clearing my name,” she said. “I’m thinking about finally being healthier and having this monkey off my back and telling my story and just getting on with my life. Finally.”
