President Donald Trump is once again under fire, this time for his “disrespectful behavior” at Pope Francis’ funeral, who died last week after Easter.

During the funeral at St. Peter’s, Trump was spotted wearing a blue suit. Most other world leaders wore all-black during the event, according to Catholic tradition.

Pope Francis and Trump had sharply different views, with the pope frequently criticizing his policies on migration.

The president’s “inappropriate suit color” sparked a debate online, with many saying that it was “disrespectful.”

“Wearing a blue suit to Pope Francis’s funeral is flat out disrespectful,” one user wrote on X.

However, Trump was not the only one who deviated from the Vatican’s dress code. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t wear a tie, and several other people were spotted not adhering to a similar dress code.

The pressure from European leaders appeared to pay off after Trump briefly sat down with Zelensky before the funeral; White House officials later confirmed that the pair would meet again soon.

In 2016, Pope Francis criticized Trump’s plan to build a border wall, leading Trump to angrily respond by saying it was “disgraceful” for a religious leader to question his faith and accusing Mexico of manipulating the Pope, such a public clash over building walls showed that it was a deliberated and pointed one from the Vatican in front of millions watching around the world.

Trump and Francis had a cordial meeting in 2017, but tensions still simmered beneath the surface. Francis continued to speak out against Trump’s policies, condemning his withdrawal from climate agreements and rhetoric on immigration. Trump later painted Pope Francis as a political operator meddling beyond his spiritual role.
