China’s Sewer Pipe Baby Released From Hospital, Returned To Mother
The infant who was rescued from a sewer pipe in China has been released from the hospital and returned to the mother after authorities concluded the life-threatening incident was accidental, reported NBC News.
The baby’s mother conceived him during a one night stand with a stranger, who reportedly had refused to admit his paternity. Afraid to reveal her out-of-wedlock pregnancy, the young woman took to hiding it. When she went to secretly deliver the baby in the apartment bathroom, she claims he slipped from her grasp and into the toilet, according to the Los Angeles Times. She then alerted a neighbor, who called police.
It took two hours for rescuers to extract the baby from the pipe connected to the apartment building toilet in Pujiang county.
Although the alleged father is insisting upon a paternity test, he was with the mother when the boy was released from the hospital and has stated his readiness to help provide for the child if he is in fact the father.
The baby is suffering from jaundice, but is by all accounts in good health, weighing in at 6 pounds, 2.8 ounces.
