In a lawsuit filed on Thursday, country music star Garth Brooks was accused of rape and sexual assault by a former employee.

Anonymous Woman X came forward with the statement that she was continually harassed by Brooks during her employment as his hairstylist and makeup artist from 2017 to 2021.

Woman X further says he was raped in 2019 while on a work trip to Los Angeles, where Brooks was taping a Grammy tribute performance. The lawsuit also accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing himself inappropriately and sharing uncomfortable sexual fantasies and text messages.

Woman X also said Brooks had attempted to get ahead of her accusation when he filed a lawsuit against her last month, in which he insisted he was the victim. Prior to Woman X’s report, CNN had reported that an undisclosed celebrity (now revealed to be Brooks) had fiercely denied assault claims and tried to keep the allegations from being repeated in public.

Later on Thursday, Brooks said in a statement, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars.  It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.”

Brooks continued, “Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another…We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.”

Brooks recently announced new dates for his Las Vegas residency.
