New ‘Suicide Squad’ Photo Released Ahead Of Film’s Release

Suicide Squad won’t hit theaters for another several months, but a new picture shows some of the squad in action.

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) are all armed and ready in the photo that was released to USA Today. 

Director David Ayer, who also wrote the screenplay for Suicide Squad, loved getting the opportunity to flesh out characters who didn’t need to be “good” like their more heroic counterparts.

“We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” Ayer told USA Today. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

There are some good guys in Suicide Squad, including Batman, played by Ben Affleck. Speaking about the actor’s days on the Suicide Squad set, Ayer said, “We made him fight. He’s awesome (as Batman)…. You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Suicide Squad is slated to open in theaters on Aug. 5.
