Reese Witherspoon has opened up about her 2013 arrest for disorderly conduct, saying "I made a mistake."

The incident happened on April 19 in Atlanta in which she was arrested for talking back to officers after her husband, Jim Toth, was pulled for driving erratically, under the suspicion that he was driving under the influence. He was arrested, which angered Witherspoon and led her to berating the officers. Toth attempted to calm her down, but Witherspoon was already engaged in an argument with one of the officers. As she describes it, Witherspoon had had "one glass too many" and was abusive to the officers, yelling, "Do you know why I am? You're going to find out!"

While promoting her new film Wild at the London Film Festival, Witherpsoon expressed embarrassment about the whole situation. "I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," she said. "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn't know about," she said. "It's part of human nature."

"I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."
