Grumpy Cat, The Internet’s Favorite Cat, Dies At Age 7

“Some days are grumpier than others. And today is one of those days.”

Grumpy Cat, real name Tardar Sauce, the internet’s favorite feline celebrity and who’s signature frown became the fuel of countless memes online, has died at age 7.

The official Grumpy Cat Twitter account, which has amassed 1.5 million followers, announced the feline died due to complications from a urinary tract infection.

“We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat,” read the statement.

“Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome,” the statement continued. “She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.”

“Besides being our baby and cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world—even when times were tough,” the note continued. “Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy Cat rose to popularity when a photo of her scowl was posted to Reddit. She quickly became an internet meme and made appearances on Good Morning America, American Idol and Sesame Street.

With the feline’s recent passing, fans have paid tribute to the cat continuing Grumpy’s legacy. She’ll be dearly missed.
