WATCH: First Trailer For ‘Loki’ With Tom Hiddleston Is Released
The first trailer for the upcoming Marvel television series Loki has been released. Along with several other trailers for properties like Marvel and Lucasfilm, it was first revealed during Disney’s Investor Day. Loki was created by Michael Waldron and stars Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the title character from the Avengers and Thor film series. The series follows Loki after his escape with the powerful item the Tesseract from The Avengers during their time traveling incident in 2012 during Avengers: Endgame. Loki will use the Tesseract to travel to various points in history as he is on the run from a shadowy government organization called the Time Variance Authority.
The trailer opens with archive footage of Loki escaping with the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame. The trailer cuts to Loki flying through a portal and landing in a desert-like area. A group of people approach Loki and stare at him, much to his confusion. The trailer then shows Loki in an elevator with character named Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), an agent for the Time Variance Authority who has Loki in handcuffs. Loki asks if they are taking him somewhere to kill him, but Mobius replies that they are going someplace to talk. Loki defiantly states that he does not like to talk, to which Mobius fires back by pointing out that he still likes to lie, before mocking him for his inability not to. Loki asks how long Mobius has been in the area and the latter sarcastically states that time passes differently in the TVA. A hooded figure is then seen in an area attacking TVA soldiers.
The trailer cuts back to Loki staring into some sort of mirror with him believing the image to be “glorious.” Loki is soon led to a courtroom in the TVA for his trial, where he is shown footage of his defeat during The Avengers. The audience is shown Loki in several different areas, one of which being a hallway where he prepares to fight three TVA agents. The trailer then briefly shows a mysterious location where a woman seems to be sitting on a purple rock. It seems to be heavily implied that this is Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) trapped in the Soul Stone. As more footage is seen of Loki fighting several people, the trailer shows Loki being handed a suitcase and about to jump out of a plane. He states to an unseen Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) that they better be ready, and jumps out of the plane where the Bifrost Portal catches him. The title card appears as the trailer ends with a final clip of a group of people and Loki wearing a business suit with some sort of candidate button of himself. When Loki asks an unseen character what they expected, the group he is with turn their weapons on him to his annoyance.
Loki will have six episodes. It is expected to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 and be released in May 2021.
