Trump Berates Reporter For ‘Stupid’ Question About Tariffs As Stock Market Plummets
On Sunday, President Donald Trump attacked a reporter onboard Air Force One when she questioned his tariffs.
Since Trump imposed the tariffs, stock markets have tanked, inspiring an avalanche of criticism from what were formerly some of Trump’s most aggressive followers.
The market has lost $11.1 trillion in value since January.
The reporter, Annmarie Horden, asked Trump if there is any “pain in the market at some point you’re unwilling to tolerate?”
Trump retorted, “I think your question is so stupid.”
He continued, “I mean, I think it’s… I don’t want anything to go down, but sometimes, you have to take medicine to fix something. And we have such a horrible we have been treated so badly by other countries because we had stupid leadership that allowed this to happen. They took our businesses, they took our money, they took our jobs, and they moved it to Mexico, they moved it to Canada, and they moved a lot of it to China, and it’s not sustainable.”
Trump asserted that the tariffs would “straighten out” and strengthen the country.
When Horden tried to investigate the topic of tariffs further, Trump dismissed him by asking, “Who are you with?”
He added, “She asks too many questions.”
Trump’s announcement last week of imposing tariffs on almost all goods imported to the U.S. has led to fears of a recession. The initial response to the tariffs, on April 2, wiped away $5 trillion from Wall Street’s market value in just two days.
