Rihanna Criticized For Filming Segment With Johnny Depp For Savage X Fenty Show
Rihanna is in some hot water after it was revealed that Johnny Depp will be appearing in a video for her upcoming online Savage X Fenty show. The show is streaming on Amazon Prime next week, but it was reported that Depp was among several celebrities appearing in the video.
Depp and his ex Amber Heard were a major news item earlier this year when he successfully sued her for defamation in Virginia. The six-week trial inflamed defenders of either side because it was all streamed publicly, and Depp has experienced a new wave of fame in the wake of the legal battle.
IN MEMORIAM 2022: 100 GREAT CELEBRITIES WHO DIED THIS YEAR!
Rihanna’s team at Savage X Fenty were likely aware of the potential controversy. In press kits for the show, most celebrities who are set to appear in the video were named Simu Liu, Winston Duke, Cara Delevingne, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lilly Singh, but Depp wasn’t included in the list.
From the screenshots that have leaked, it seems like this show’s video is elaborate and eye-catching, but it’s unfortunate that it will be spoiled for many by seeing Depp there. But given how many people were loudly supportive of Depp during this court case, it remains to be seen whether Rihanna’s online criticism will manifest in a dip in sales.
There’s still time to leave Depp on the cutting room floor, as it doesn’t look like his appearance was much more than a couple of shots of him pouting into the camera.
