Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore & Charles Melton Attend Screening Of Their Film ‘May December’
Stars of Netflix’s recent movie May December Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore and Charles Melton convened in New York for a special screening of the film and further conversation.
Among the participants in the conversation were screenwriter Samy Burch and director Todd Haynes.
Media personality Katie Couric moderated the conversation with the film’s cast and creators. The discussions delved into various aspects of the film and provided insight into its production and themes.
The event took place at The Whitby Hotel and was attended by an impressive lineup of A-list celebrities, which included Michael J. Fox, Chloe Grace Moretz, Lucas Hedges, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Dianna Agron.
May December, just short of two hours, is the story of an actress (Portman) who travels to Georgia to study a controversial woman (Moore) she is set to play in a film. Based on a true story, Moore plays Gracie Atherton-Yoo, a schoolteacher who became infamous two decades before for her sexual relationship with a seventh grader.
May December has garnered widespread critical acclaim since its release. Melton, known for his previous role in Riverdale, received high praise for his supporting performance in the film and was honored with a Gotham Award in 2023.
In 2017, Moore spoke to uInterview exclusively about her partnership with Haynes, which began back in 1994 when Moore auditioned for a role in one of his films.
“I was in Pittsburgh making a movie, and my agent sent me the script for Safe,” she recalled. “I read it and thought it was extraordinary and I couldn’t believe they were holding auditions for it. I was like, ‘Shouldn’t somebody be cast already, there should be somebody famous in this.’ And I loved it, and I flew home to New York and I went to audition for him and read three scenes and we barely spoke, and he cast me afterward.”
