Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown and fiancé Jake Bongiovi, son of musician Jon Bon Jovi, are tying the knot with Brown’s costar, Matthew Modine, officiating.

Modine, known for his roles in Full Metal Jacket and Vision Quest, plays Brown’s father figure in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. While Modine’s character, known as “Papa” by Eleven or Dr. Martin Brenner, isn’t the kindest in the show, there was nothing but love from Modine when he announced he will officiate the young couple’s marriage.

Modine told Access Daily, “I have one of those licenses to get people married and Millie thought it’d be great, and then Jake said it would be a great idea, so I wrote the wedding vows and they loved what I wrote for them to join hands and to become husband and wife.”

Brown and Bongiovi got engaged in April 2023 after dating for two and a half years. The couple announced their engagement in an Instagram post on Brown’s account showing off her diamond ring.

Brown and Bongiovi were 19 and 20 years old at the time respectively. Their ages sparked concerns from fans who felt that the couple were “too young.” Many fans brought up how “immature” they felt at that age in their lives. Brown was also met with support and congratulations from other celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Aaron Paul.

Bongiovi’s father defended their engagement, saying, “You know, if you find the right partner and you grow together, I think that would be my advice really, is growing together is wise.” Bon Jovi cited his marriage to his high school sweetheart as an example.

Recently, Bongiovi’s family joined Brown for the premiere of her new movie Damsel in New York City.

Brown and Bongiovi have yet to announce their official wedding date. Modine also said about their upcoming marriage, “It’s such a beautiful thing to be able to join two people in holy matrimony.” Modine has been married to his wife Caridad Rivera for 44 years.
