After going viral during his performance at the 67th annual Grammy’s on Sunday, February 2, Benson Boone has issued an apology for adjusting his outfit.

In a now-viral video, Benson, dressed in a tight, sparkly blue jumpsuit for the performance of his song “Beautiful Things” at the awards show, nails a backflip off the piano. Before taking a bow, he tugs at the crotch area of his outfit in discomfort.

Thanks to the immediate spread of mocking comments, Boone was quick to respond to the incident, posting to Instagram stories on Feb. 3, “Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight that thing was aggressively restricting in certain areas.”

In a conversation with Access Hollywood prior to the performance, Boone shared his reaction to being chosen to perform; “[It’s like] a fever dream…It is so psycho…I went to do rehearsals and just looking at the little name tags of who is going to be watching? It’s the ultimate honor to be here tonight.”

He continued, “It’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else thinks about you, because I’m being vulnerable and putting myself out into the world for other people to judge, but really as long as I love the music I’m making I think that’s where I’m going to find the most success and I’m going to try to carry that on into 2025.”

He told People before the show, “I’m doing really good as you can tell, there’s a lot of energy flowing through my body right now this is very crazy for me. There’s a lot of cool people here. I’m really excited to perform. I’m, kind of like…c—ping my pants right now.”

He further shared, “In between four-and-a-half and five years ago I discovered I could sing, ever since then, I do it every day. It’s like my greatest passion and I’m just happy that I could make a living out of it.”

While Boone’s performance was met with high praise, he ultimately lost the Best New Artist award to Chappell Roan.
