After getting married in 2007, Bourdain and Busia split up in 2016, but they remained close. Soon after the separation, Bourdain told People, “My wife and I live, have lived, very separate lives for years. There’s no drama here. We get along really, really well and it’s not a big lifestyle change happening here.”

In a 2013 episode of cooking competition show The Taste, Bourdain expressed the joy of being a dad: “It is the most glorious thing in the world to be the father of a little girl. She warms my heart so much each day. She loves cooking in the kitchen with me, gets up on a little chair and takes it really seriously. We make ratatouille together, omelets, she loves it. She puts on her little apron.”

Bourdain died of an apparent suicide on June 8. If you or anyone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
