Academy Awards 2019: What Time Are The Oscars? Who’s Hosting? Who Is Performing?

The 91st Oscars are set to take place this Sunday night, and here is everything you need to know about this year’s Academy Awards, which mark Hollywood’s biggest night.

Time and channel the show will air on: The Oscars will air Sunday at 8 p.m. EST (5 p.m. PST) on ABC. They will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The show can also be live-streamed on ABC.go.com. Red carpet coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Who’s hosting: There is no host for this year’s Oscars! Following the debacle surrounding 39-year-old comedian Kevin Hart — who was asked to host the ceremony but then was quickly dropped after his old homophobic tweets resurfaced — the Academy has chosen to make this a historic show and go host-less for the first time in 30 years. So what does this mean? There will be several movie stars who will serve as “mini-hosts” and likely make jokes throughout the evening, just as the host typically does during his/her opening monologue.

Who’s presenting: Just like the list of this year’s nominees, the list of presenters includes some of the biggest names working in entertainment today: Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Tessa Thompson, Chris Evans, Jason Momoa and Angela Bassett (all of whom have starred in superhero films) will present. Also presenting this year are Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Charlize Theron, Daniel Craig, Emilia Clarke, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy and James McAvoy.

All four of last year’s acting winners — Allison Janney (Best Supporting Actress, I Tonya), Sam Rockwell (Best Supporting Actor, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Gary Oldman (Best Actor, Darkest Hour) and Frances McDormand (Best Actress, Three Billboards) are also slated to present.

Roma and The Favourite are the top-nominated films this year, with 10 nods each.

Who’s performing: Rock band Queen and Adam Lambert — who has been the band’s frontman since 2011 — will perform in honor of the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which is nominated for multiple Oscars this year. It is unknown exactly which song Queen will sing. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will also perform their powerful duet “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, a ballad that is nominated for Best Original Song and that won the Golden Globe in that same category last month.

All four other Best Original Song nominees will also perform: Jennifer Hudson will perform “I’ll Fight” from the Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary RBG, Kendrick Lamar & SZA will perform “All the Stars” from Black Panther, Bette Midler will croon “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns and David Rawlings and Gillian Welch will sing “When A Cowboy Trades his Spurs for Wings” from the Netflix film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

How long the show will last: show-runners are said to be striving to keep the ceremony to three hours long or less to present all 24 award categories.
