Monica Lewinsky Says Bill Clinton Should Have Resigned Instead Of Throwing Her ‘Under The Bus’ After Their Affair
Monica Lewinsky stated that former President Bill Clinton should have dealt with the aftermath of their affair by resigning. “When you look back once the news broke and how everything was handled by media and the White House, how do you think it should have been handled,” the podcast host Alex Cooper asked Lewinski. “Have you thought about that?”
“I think that the right way to handle a situation like that would have been to probably say it was, you know, nobody’s business and to resign, you know, or to find a way – to find a way of staying in office that was not lying and not throwing a young person who was just starting out in the world under the bus,” Lewinsky declared.
“And at the same time, I’m hearing myself say that, and it’s like, OK, but we’re also talking about the most powerful office in the world, you know,” she added. “So I don’t want to be naive either.”
Cooper then asked Lewinsky, “At what cost [was she] just kind of thrown to the wolves to protect something.”
“I don’t know,” the former intern replied. It’s really complicated because you are talking about issues and situations where so many people are impacted. Maybe this is a reflection of my generation or my age, but I don’t know where the right balance is, you know, because there was damage no matter what,” she added.
“I think there was so much collateral damage for women of – of my generation to watch a young woman to be pillared on the world stage, to be torn apart, you know, for my sexuality, for my mistakes, for my everything,” she declared.
“The consequences were just nowhere, you know,” Lewinsky stated. “I lost my future, so I mean that was that really was I was lucky enough to hold on to a strand of my true self, but I lost my future.”
“I’m so grateful for how my life has changed in the last 10 years, but it wasn’t – that certainly was not a given,” she shared.
