Legendary music producer Irv Gotti (born Irving Lorenzo Jr.) died on Feb. 5 at the age of 54.

Many fellow musicians have taken to social media to pay their respects to the artist. While most tributes are warm, Gotti’s longtime rival, 50 Cent, decided to use the death to virtually “end” the two’s feud.

Gotti and 50 Cent (born Curtis James Jackson III) have had a public feud for 25 years. In 1999, artist Ja Rule (also signed to Gotti’s label Murder Inc. Label at the time) accused one of 50 Cent’s associates of robbing him in Queens. 50 Cent then released his song “Your Life’s on the Line,” which directly criticized Gotti and Ja Rule.

A year later, at New York’s Hit Factory Studio, Ja Rule and 50 Cent had an altercation, which led to the rapper Black Child stabbing 50 Cent, allegedly in self-defense. After 50 Cent was shot nine times in 2000, a 2005 federal investigation suspected members of the record label might have been retaliating to his diss track. They were not charged in association with the shooting.

In 2017, 50 Cent threatened to slap Gottii following an interview on The Breakfast Club and the two clashed again in 2021 when Gotti claimed that DMX had died of a fentanyl overdose. 50 Cent shared a (since deleted) post that stated, “This guy is a idiot,” adding, “Did he just say DMX died from smoking crack and fentanyl why would he say that?”

In a post to Instagram, 50 Cent showed himself on the couch with a hookah and decorative tombstone, reading “RIP” at his side. He captioned the photo, “I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack,” and added, “Nah God bless him🕊️ LOL.”

On the second slide, Jackson showed a picture of Gotti at the City of Hope 2023 Spirit of Life Gala.

This tribute post is not unexpected from the rapper, who has a history of comedically commenting on Gotti’s health. When a graphic statement informed that Gotti was on life support and preparing for death in August, Jackson captioned the post, “D— I wanted him to see my new shows yo!”

Gotti suffered multiple strokes in recent years.

In 2019, Gotti sat for an exclusive uInterview, recounting how he got into music. “I first got into DJing because a guy who lived around the corner from me … his dad had two turntables and a mixer,” Gotti explained. “So when he was off at work, I used to start DJing with the two turntables and the mixer, and it was love at first sight.”

Gotti described how he never tired of DJing – even when he only practiced one song at a time. “I would literally mix one record,” he said. “Literally, I would do that three to four hours. Just that record! So then when ‘Sucker M.C.’ came out … That record I did for ten hours.”
