More details about the complicated relationship between Meghan Markle and former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful have come to light.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Enninful and Markle had plans for Markle to make her mark on British Vogue in September 2022, an issue that would include Markle’s appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester, as well as “extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions.”

The outlet reported that Markle wanted to be on the cover, but Enninful had already booked Linda Evangelista for that issue, which resulted in Markle pulling the whole story from the magazine, and the alleged falling out between the friends.

However, a new source has revealed that Markle had not just wanted a cover, but a “global cover” –appearing on the front of UK and US Vogue – along with a “list” of other “demands.”

The source recounted, “Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue…Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”

Markle even tried to appeal to Anna Wintour, setting up a personal Zoom call to pitch her the idea. “Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite… Anna wasn’t interested.”

The source also noted that the US edition of the magazine had already booked Serena Williams as the cover star.

Adele is the only celebrity to have ever appeared on both US and UK Vogue covers simultaneously, for the November 2021 issues.

Markle did end up getting a cover in September 2022, when she appeared on the digital cover of a much less prestigious magazine, The Cut, where she was promoting her failed Archetypes podcast.

Sources previously told The Daily Mail, “The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations. He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month.”

“Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast…The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down.”
