Justin Bieber Denies Sexual Assault Allegations Made Against Him On Twitter
Justin Bieber has denied sexual assault allegations made against him on Twitter last night, after a woman claimed that the pop star assaulted her in 2014.
Bieber addressed the allegations, and in a series of tweets, provided alleged proof that he could not have been where the allegations say he was on that night.
“Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly,” he tweeted. “I wanted to speak out right away but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement.”
“In the past 24 hours a new Twitter appeared that told a story of myself involved with sexual abuse on March 9, 2014 in Austin Texas at the Four seasons hotel. I want to be clear. There is no truth to this story. In fact as I will soon show I was never present at that location,” he wrote.
The allegations come from an anonymous Twitter user named Danielle, who detailed the alleged assault. The account has been taken down, but screenshots of the tweet have been posted.
In the post, she wrote that she was inspired to come out with her story after reading the allegation against Ansel Elgort.
She went on to write that she met Bieber with her friends after he did a surprise performance for a small crowd at SXSW in Austin, Texas. She alleged that he invited them to his room at the Four Seasons, where she said the assault took place. He allegedly took her to another room. They started to make out, and he started to undress her.
“I was very uncomfortable, and I felt myself starting to hyperventilate,” she wrote. “I told him to get off because I was starting to worry about my friends, but it was too late. He forced himself inside me before I got the last few words out. He was thrusting in and out me. As I laid there, speechless. My body felt unconscious.”
“Although, this was 6 years ago, although I was one year older than him (he was 20, I was 21), I was still sexually assaulted without my consent,” she said.
Bieber rebutted these claims with receipts showing he was not staying at the Four Seasons, as Danielle alleged, but at an Airbnb with his friends and then girlfriend Selena Gomez. He also posted pictures of him and Gomez together that night.
Some Twitter users have pointed to a tweet from a woman who wrote that she saw Bieber at the Four Seasons on March 10, but Bieber said he was only at the restaurant that night, and had not been staying there the night before.
He went on to post receipts from Airbnb and the Westin to show that he had not been staying at the Four Seasons. On the receipts he said he used an alias, Mike Lowery, but won’t be using that name anymore.
He ended the series of tweets by retweeting Riverdale actor Cole Sprouse, who has also been accused of sexual assault this week.
“False accusations do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault. Furthermore, I would never seek to silence anybody. I encourage that people look into the accusations themselves, as the events detailed were factually untrue,” Sprouse’s tweet said.
