March 8 marks International Women’s Day, and celebrities have been voicing their support for the cause on Twitter.

CELEBS CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON TWITTER

In addition to International Women’s Day, women around the world today are taking part in a global women’s strike, calling for women to not participate in the work force or economy today, in order to show what it would be like if women did not exist. The goal is to make the world aware of how important women are to to every sector.

“Happy #InternationalWomensDay,” tweeted J.K. Rowling. “Or, as it’s often called on here, #WhyIsntThereAnInternationalMensDay. (There is: November 19th.)”

Jane Lynch added, “It’s #internationalwomensday and this lady took a break last night to shine all on her own. Wear red. Let’s not get to work!”


“Today I stand with #ADayWithoutWomen #InternationalWomensDay,” shared Hope Solo.


“Honoring #InternationalWomensDay, being an ally, this is your day, let me explain how,” jokes Joss Whedon.


Kim Kardashion West tweeted, “Thank u to all the strong women who fought & continue to fight for change.”


“”Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, that is not difficult,”” added Adele.


“From midnight NYC time, book fairies around the WORLD will start hiding feminist books to mark #IWD #IWDoursharedshelf @the_bookfairies,” tweeted Emma Watson.
