New ‘Star Trek’ Series Coming To CBS All Access
Star Trek will soon be returning to the small screen and will become the first original series developed specifically for CBS All Access.
‘Star Trek’ TV Series
The new Star Trek series will be developed by producer Alex Kurtzman, who produced and co-wrote the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Drawing on the mythology of the original series, which premiered back in 1966, the new series will introduce a host of new characters and new worlds and civilizations for them to explore.
“There is no better time to give ‘Star Trek’ fans a new series than on the heels of the original show’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios. “Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.”
CBS picked up Star Trek straight to series. The show will premiere on CBS sometime in January 17. Following the premiere, all episodes will air on the network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, CBS All Access.
Currently, CBS All Access hosts episodes from CBS’s vast catalogue of shows both past and present. The service, which costs $5.99 a month, also enables subscribers to stream the network live.
