Singer Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester, England, on May 15, in connection with an alleged assault that took place at a London nightclub in February 2023. The 36-year-old singer has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, following accusations that he attacked music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.

According to court proceedings, Brown allegedly struck Diaw multiple times with a bottle before proceeding to punch and kick him, resulting in severe injuries. The incident was reportedly captured on CCTV and occurred in a crowded venue.

Following his arrest at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, Brown appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16. Judge Joanne Hirst deemed the charges too serious for the magistrates’ court, referring the case to Southwark Crown Court for a hearing scheduled on June 13. Brown was denied bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The alleged victim has also filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking $16 million in damages for the injuries and financial losses he claims to have suffered as a result of the incident.

Brown’s arrest and the serious nature of the charges have cast uncertainty over his upcoming Breezy Bowl XX World Tour, which was set to commence in Amsterdam on June 8. The tour includes multiple dates across Europe and the United States.

This incident adds to Brown’s history of legal issues, including a 2009 felony assault conviction involving his ex, singer Rihanna.

As the legal proceedings continue, Brown’s representatives have not issued a public statement regarding the charges or his upcoming tour.

Brown recently sued Warner Bros. for $500 million for defamation over a documentary about his history of abuse.
