Petra Nemcova On What Makes A Great Dress And Suit
Petra Nemcova, one of the most recognizable faces in modeling, has been working in the industry since 1995 but won global recognition after landing the 2003 cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
The Czech-born Nemcova has since been featured in campaigns for Victoria’s Secret and Cartier. In 2004 she survived the Asian tsunami in Thailand while on vacation with her fiancée, who was lost in the disaster. In 2006, Nemcova founded the Happy Hearts Fund, a charitable organization that aims to rebuild schools and lives in areas where natural disasters have struck. Despite her charitable work, Nemcova remains a fashionista at heart always packing wearable dresses when she travels. “For me personally because I’m a gypsy and I travel all the time it's a [dress] that doesn’t wrinkle,” she told Uinterview exclusively.
Men’s suit I think is really almost like a business card for a man, because if its a well made suit you really — it says a lot, it says who the man is, if he’s thoughtful about his wardrobe, what kind of person he is. I think it’s the first sort of introduction from far away before you have the chance to give the business card. And when you see a well-made, tailored suit, it’s already a big plus.
For a woman’s dress, it depends on what you’re going for. If it’s a red carpet dress it’s a statement piece, if it’s a cocktail dress I think it's simplicity it's very less is more, and for me personally because I’m a gypsy and I travel all the time. It's something which doesn’t wrinkle so a cocktail dress that also fits in my carry-on just in case my little suitcases get lost. And timeless as well, because if they are timeless they can travel with you.
