RECAP: America's Next Top Model All Stars Disqualifies Angelea Preston
Wednesday night's season finale of America's Next Top Model: All Stars cycle shocked fans everywhere when the judges announced that one of the top contenders for the crown was being disqualified for undisclosed reasons.
Lisa D'Amato, Allison Harvard and Angelea Preston started off the episode ordinarily enough for any Top Model finalists — preparing for their Cover Girl beauty shots. After this, a photo shoot for Vogue Italia, and the last of endless traipses down the runway, the panelists reconvened in Los Angeles to discuss the fates of the three finalists.
Then photographer and judge Nigel Barker explained that Preston had been disqualified from the competition due to "information" the network executives at the CW had received about her. Neither Barker nor show's host and creator Tyra Banks commented on the nature of the "information."
After the dust from the announcement settled and the rest of the competition played out, D'Amato was finally crowned the winner, and Harvard was sent home.
Today the network released a statement about the incident. "After production wrapped on the current cycle of America's Next Top Model, we learned information that made Angelea ineligible and she was subsequently disqualified from the competition. As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale." There is unconfirmed speculation that Preston might have been the cycle's original winner, but leaked information about her victory before the finale aired, thus violating the rules, reports People.
