Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin are getting a divorce after over 30 years of marriage. Todd filed for divorce last Friday, claiming “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife.” as a reason for the split. The state of Alaska views “incompatibility of temperament” the same way many other states view “irreconcilable differences.”

Todd was by Sarah’s side throughout her career as governor and during her campaign for vice president alongside Sen. John McCain’s run for president in 2008. Todd and Sarah eloped in 1988 and share five children together. It is said that Todd will share joint custody of their youngest son, Trig, who is 11 years old.

Neither Sarah nor Todd have spoken publicly about the divorce.
