Bette Midler Taking Heat For Bashing Melania Trump Over Twitter
Bette Midler has come under fire after taking a dig at First Lady Melania Trump on Twitter.
On Thursday, the Grammy-winning singer and two-time Oscar-nominated actress, posted an old photo of former model, Trump on Twitter. The photo shows the first lady posing in an airplane cockpit for a British GQ photo shoot back in 2000. In the photo, Trump is seen partially naked and wearing what looks to be a clear plastic bikini with metal accouterments.
“The dry cleaning bill for the upholstery on Air Force One must be insane. #FLOTITS,” Midler wrote as the caption.
Following her post, fans immediately took to Twitter to slam the 72-year-old actress.
“What a crass and inelegant remark. Perhaps upbringing is harder to overcome than previously thought. Money hasnt bought you class, Betty,” one user wrote.
“I love you and loathe that whole family but no. Just no. Pick apart her dangerous actions, not her body/use thereof,” another user wrote. “Women deserve better than this.”

“Why are you doing this? Haven’t you had enough of bashing this poor woman? She was a model, so what. Don’t hate. You really just made a fool of yourself with such a catty comment. Did you feel better after posting this? That made you feel good? You should apologize,” another user added.

Even one of Midler’s long-time fans were disappointed in Midler’s tweet. “What a shame! U were 1 of my favorite actresses & singers growing up! My mother would listen2 your songs all day & that is where I got my love for4u! My children also fell in love with yr music! 1of their favorite movies was HocusPocus! u just hurt alot of people that loved U!,” they wrote.
But of course, there were still fans that stood by Midler. “You’re getting a lot of flack for this tweet from fans. Not from this fan, I thought it was hysterical. Melania offers nothing for young women to inspire them,” one user tweeted.
“Ignore the haters. You are amazing and very loved!” another said.
Just last month, Midler received huge backlash for posting a racially insensitive tweet.
“Women, are the n-word of the world’ Raped, beaten, enslaved, married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life IN SILENCE for THOUSANDS of years. They are the most disrespected creatures on earth,” she tweeted on October 4 and later deleted.
After fans were quick to call Midler out for the controversial tweet, a few hours later she came out and apologized. “The too brief investigation of allegations against Kavanaugh infuriated me. Angrily I tweeted w/o thinking my choice of words would be enraging to black women who doubly suffer, both by being women and by being black. I am an ally and stand with you; always have. And I apologize,” she wrote.
In the past, Midler has also been called out for a feud that sparked between her and Kim Kardashian and for making a comment about Caitlyn Jenner that critics found transphobic.
