Taylor Laurence Handley is an American actor and producer who is best known for his role as Kyle McLusky in the popular thriller series Mayor of Kingstown, which first premiered in November 2021.

Taylor Handley was born on June 1, 1984 (Taylor Handley age: 39) in Santa Barbara, California. He studied at Santa Monica City College.

TAYLOR HANDLEYBIOGRAPHY: CAREER

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Handley revealed his first acting experience which made him realize he wanted to pursue it as a profession.

“I think I played a tree in a play when I was like 6, and I was on stage and I said, you know what? I think I want to be more than a tree,” Handley laughed. “I like being up here. I like doing this. One of my favorite stories is I remember watching Terminator 2 when I was a kid in the theater, and I just remember seeing Edward Furlong on the back of a dirt bike rolling around town blasting Guns ‘N Roses and hacking ATM machines, and I thought to myself, that’s what I want to do. And here I am 30-something years later.”

Moving on to the hit thriller series Mayor of Kingstown, Handley discussed what it was like preparing for his character.

“Well, just like any character, you take the script, you take the text, you break it down, you break down the backstory,” Handley said. “And really, it’s not hard to get into the mindset when you’re really put into these situations to make it happen. I mean, it’s easy to imagine what it would be like, but again, I try to craft most characters, or the characters that I have with imagination, but you also got to personalize it because you have to feel it cellularly in order to produce the most amount of truth, I believe.”

When asked about his most memorable scene, this is what Handley had to say:

“Gosh, there was so much,” Handley exclaimed. “I mean, this season, Kyle goes on such a wild ride. He is just running and gunning, full pain and chain from the prison riots. He’s really looking for redemption. At the same time, deferring examining his trauma. So, the behavior that Kyle exhibits because of those weighing things that are going on with him is very questionable. I can’t really pinpoint one favorite scene I had because the entire season two is such a wild ride for him.”

Handley also went on to reveal his process in trying to relate to his character.

“Well, there are certain things that Kyle has gone through that I’ve actually gone through personally,” Handley confessed. “There are some family traumas that I’ve gone through personally. So, I’m no stranger to knowing what it feels like emotionally to go through some of the things that Kyle has to go through. There’s a lot of things that Kyle goes through that I’ve gone through or know somebody who’s gone through, and when you are an actor, an examiner of life, you know, I’m an examiner of people. I see what they go through, I see how people behave and I study behavior, you know? And that’s almost the fun of bringing it into the characters. Like, ok, all this work that I’ve done, you know, how I just view the world, how I view people, you know, the things that I’ve seen, examples like I pull it all together and I bring it into the character.”

“Yeah, it really seems like you’ve captured some element of the character that really resonates,” commented Erik Meers, founder of uInterview.

“You have to,” Handley added. “And you have to go there, you have to be vulnerable, and some of those things you have to imagine. I mean, some of those things, like being stuck underground at a prison riot, that’s never happened to me. I’m not a detective who’s been stuck underground at a prison riot with a baby on the way, but I do know that there was an option to kind of play that scene as the very cool guy or the guy who has his s— together and not be completely vulnerable. I know that that would have been fake and so I just really went there. I mean I was really scared, you know? I was really trying hard to feel that fear and you put it all together and you let it rip and you hope it gets edited together right. Sure enough, I think it did and I’m grateful for that, and again that’s a testament to the producers, the writers, Taylor, everybody.”

Handley currently resides with his wife and daughter in Los Angeles, California. In his spare time, Handley can be seen reading, traveling and spending time practicing photography.
