Mayor of Kingstown, a thriller that follows the lives of the McLusky family as they tackle systemic racism and corruption in their town, has returned for Season 2.

Taylor Handley, who plays Kyle McLusky, recently sat with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss keeping in contact with co-star Jeremy Renner after his near-fatal accident.

“All I know is that all the news coming out of his camp is really positive, so we’re really grateful and I know the thoughts and prayers are being really well received,” Handley said. “It’s great to see everyone coming together and rooting for him.”

Handley also revealed his favorite memory from working with Renner on the new season.

“I just love the dynamic that he and I have, that our characters have,” the actor said. “Originally, when we met in Season 1, it didn’t take long for us to fall in as brothers. We had a 15-20 minute conversation, ‘Hey, how are you doing? I’m into this, I’m into that,’ and all of a sudden it’s ‘Brother, I love you!’ You know? It’s just a testament to his professionalism and I’m so grateful I get to create with an actor of his caliber.”

The show covers tough and often dark themes. Handley provided insight into how he’s able to get into that mindset to portray his character.

“Just like any character, you take the script and take the text, you break it down and break down the backstory,” Handley said, “Really, it’s not hard to get in the mindset when you’re really put in these situations to make it happen. It’s easy to imagine what it would be like, but again, I try to craft most characters with imagination, but you also have to personalize it because you have to feel it cellularly in order to produce the most amount of truth I believe.”

Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 is now streaming on Paramount+.
