‘WandaVision’ Series Finale Annoys Fans With Its Answer To Who Evan Peters Was Really Playing
After weeks of waiting for the final episode, fans were finally given an answer as to who Evan Peters was really playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series WandaVision. However, the answer given by the show proved to be underwhelming for many viewers. The ninth episode of WandaVision aired on the Disney+ streaming service on March 5. It was directed by Matt Shakman and written by showrunner Jac Shaeffer.
Titled “The Series Finale,” the episode centers on Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) having her climatic battle with the villain Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and finally accepting the loss of Vision (Paul Bettany). The finale also finally reveals the true identity of Peters’ character and why he was pretending to be Wanda’s brother Pietro. Following the post-credits scene of the seventh episode, “Pietro” captures Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and attempts to prevent her from helping Wanda. Monica easily defeats “Pietro” and discovers that he is merely a resident of the town of Westview named Ralph Bohner who was accidentally hypnotized by Wanda and given a charm by Agatha to provide him with super speed.
Many fans were disappointed by the reveal, as they were expecting Peters to be the same Quicksilver character he played in the X-Men film series, especially due the fact that the upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will heavily feature Wanda in a starring role and introduce the concept of a multiverse. Many have called Marvel out on their prank on the fans, as most viewers enjoyed Peters as Quicksilver in the X-Men movies, and were looking forward to seeing him portray the character despite the other franchise being canceled. Most of the criticism of the final episode was directed at the Ralph Bohner joke, as not only did it provide an underwhelming answer as to what Peters’ role was, but it was also a juvenile display of humor that not many people found funny.
Despite the unimpressed reactions towards the twist, most fans enjoyed the finale to WandaVision and have praised it for its thrilling climax emotional ending. The full season WandaVision can now be viewed on Disney+.
