Vili Fualaau Says He’d ‘Seek Some Help’ If He Were Attracted to Someone Underage

Two months after the death of his former teacher and convicted child rapist Mary Kay Letourneau, her husband Vili Faulaau has spoken out.

In an interview on Wednesday on The Dr. Oz Show, Faulaau discussed his late wife and past sexual abuser, Letourneau. Dr. Oz noted how Fualaau was approximately the same age his wife was when she first started abusing him, and asked Faulaau what he would do if he felt attracted to a child.

“I’d probably go and seek some help,” Fualaau answered. “I couldn’t look at a 13-year-old and be attracted to that, because it’s just not in my brain. It’s nothing that I’m attracted to.”

Letourneau was a sixth-grade teacher when she began sexually abusing Fualaau, who was her student and only 12-years-old at the time. She was later sentenced to more than seven years in prison for child rape. She also became pregnant with Fualaau’s children twice, despite court orders to keep the pair separated.

By the time her prison sentence ended, Fualaau was old enough to get the restraining order against Letourneau dropped. The couple eventually married in 2005, then split in 2017 after Fualaau filed for legal separation. The pair also had two daughters together and stayed involved in their lives.

Despite the divorce, Letourneau left much of her estate to Fualaau in her will, and Fualaau was by her side when she died.
