In a brutal blow to Sean Combs defense case in his upcoming trial, one of his attorneys mysteriously filed a motion to withdraw from the case. Combs was indicted in September on multiple charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

His trial is set for May 5. Until then, he is behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn under a $50 million bail. A judge earlier rejected a defense motion for Combs to be held under house arrest.

Giving no reason for his request, Combs’ lawyer Anthony Ricco firmly stated in his affidavit, “Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice.”

In an explanation of why his motion request was so concise, Ricco stated that he would not go into detail about his reasoning, given attorney-client confidentiality.

Ricco assured, “This motion for withdrawal of counsel, if granted, will not result in a delay of the present schedule for the commencement of jury selection and trial, or the present schedules for briefing of pretrial legal issues…there will be no lapse in representation, as Sean Combs will continue to be represented by five other attorneys of record.”

Ricco cannot be officially removed from the case until he’s granted the motion from a judge.

Combs’ five other attorneys working his case include the lead counsel Marc Agnifilo.

Speaking about Agnifilo, a “well-positioned” attorney told Deadline of Combs’ defense team, “It’s become a real s—show, they’re desperate to not go to trial…Look at the filings, they’re throwing everything at the wall and praying something sticks.”

Lawyers for Combs’ victims have stated that over 300 individuals have a case against Combs.

Combs has denied any wrongdoing and last week filed a $100 million lawsuit against NBC for the documentary that aired on Peacock last month, Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.

Combs’ case is not only a topic of public conversation due to Combs’ celebrity status but also for his infamous parties – allegedly riddled with assault – of which many famous stars were in attendance.
